The current scientific consensus is that the best option for radioactive waste management in the long term is that it should be kept isolated from the human environment and the biosphere until the hazard posed has reduced to insignificant proportions.

There are alternative viewpoints, not all of which address the issue on the merits of the technical case for the protection of current and future generations.
