Conclusion
Social Class
Danielle,
Dave and Fiona's views on how selective schools and top universities appear to favour students from higher
class backgrounds are in accordance with the findings of Halsey, Heath and Ridge
and Smith and Noble.
Danielle's
belief that there is no longer a very significant link between social class and
educational achievement does not link with the statistics which show that
independent and grammar schools, who mostly have higher class students,
outperform comprehensive schools by over 50 percent. Mark's opinions,
however, do agree with the statistics.
Rogoff's
assertion that working class families have lower aspirations is supported by
Dave and Mark, but not Danielle.
