Welcome to DIVERSE online.

Mark Childs
November 2004

Welcome to the first edition of the DIVERSE newsletter. Although this is the first online newsletter, DIVERSE has been in existence since 2001 as a series of international conferences. The people attending the conferences are from both the public and private sectors, are technicians, academics and educationalists, and are from every continent (well, we haven't had any from Antarctica yet, but there's still time). The single element that unites the attendees is an interest in the use of video and videoconferencing in education.

This newsletter is intended to maintain contact with attendees between the conferences, and establish contact with people who haven't yet attended. The fifth DIVERSE conference will take place in Nashville from July 5th to July 7th, 2005. More details will be published over the next 10 months.

The newsletter will be published four times a year and will contain articles, news items, and resources on the DIVERSE subjects. Other features will be added as the newsletter develops. Under our DIVERSE banner, we will have information directly of interest to the DIVERSE community, such as publications, past conferences, archives of papers and past editions of the newsletter. Under the DIVERSIFY banner, we will have resources, links to relevant projects and DIVERSE members' sites, and we intend to act as a forum for establishing partnerships for bidding for funding.

Mainly, though, we want to meet the needs and interests of the readers to this newsletter. If you have an interest in video and videoconferencing in education and want to know more, or if you have any suggestions about what to include in the newsletter or wish to contribute, please contact us.
